Crop Talk
Harvest is finally rolling, though the weather hasn’t made it easy. Between little showers here and there and the heavy dews at night, it’s been an interesting go so far. Many are hitting the fields whenever they can, pushing hard to cover acres in the short windows we get.
Looking for a positive, this moisture will go to rebuild soil reserves for next year. Of course, if the rain had held off until September, it would have made getting cereals off the field much easier.
Corn Progress
With the recent heat and humidity, maturity is moving right along, and fields are on track for a solid finish.
Cereal Crops
Cereal harvest has been a stop-and-go process. Rain showers and heavy dews have made progress slow. Hopefully it has a minimal impact on quality.
Canola Watch
Canola is also coming off now, with many fields ready to go and harvest well underway. It’s a busy stretch as canola and cereals are lining up at the same time. The limited few yields we have heard so far are hovering in the low 50's.
Bean Talk
Soybeans and dry beans are starting to turn big time, though fields vary in how quickly they’re changing. The humid weather has meant white mold showing up in patches, but overall stands still look good. Maturity is moving along as harvest inches closer. Typically we don't see the soybean harvest start up until the third week in September but this year may be an exception.
