Crop Talk
Herbicide applications are mostly wrapped up, with just the odd second pass happening in corn or soybeans. Be sure to keep any reseeded acres in mind when planning that second spray—those fields are a bit behind and may still be in the ideal window.
Looking ahead, fungicide timing is coming up quickly for many crops. A lot of fields are expected to hit that window over the next 7–10 days, so now’s a good time to be scouting and planning ahead.
Cereal Crops
Cereals are looking solid overall, but dry conditions are starting to show, especially in fields that missed the bigger rains. As of now, there’s little to no leaf disease pressure, but stay on alert as the fungicide window approaches.
Canola Watch
It’s been fairly quiet in the canola this week. No flea beetle pressure to speak of anymore, and most fields are now bolting or starting to flower. A few adult Diamondback moths have been observed in the canola, so be ready to watch for the window pane damage the larva cause on the leaves.
Bean Talk
Many soybean fields are just beginning to flower, marking an important stage as we move into reproductive growth. Keep an eye on staging and field variability, especially in spots that struggled with crusting or emergence early on.
Corn Progress
Some fields are well on their way and should hit that old benchmark of “knee-high by July,” while others — especially those that struggled with emergence or cooler starts — are lagging behind.
