The corn and beans will be happy with this rain....

As you look around the fields, harvest will soon be in full swing, although we will have to be patient as everything dries up from a welcome rain delay. Jenn was onsite as our first On-Farm Research Network trial was harvested this week, marking the beginning of a busy season for all.

Our staff attended a short info session held by the RM of Montcalm and Morris Valley Weed Committee to help local farmers identify which weeds are growing in their fields and how to tell the difference between Waterhemp, Powell, Redroot and Giant ragweed.  If you think you may be seeing Waterhemp, reach out to us to help have it identified. DO NOT send it through your combine!

A few months ago, we asked for your support in voting for our local fire department to help them secure the $25,000 Growing Home Grant from BASF. Thanks to your efforts, they won! Join us tonight for a community celebration at the fire hall, starting at 4:30 PM. There will be live music, dinner provided by Danny's Whole Hog, bouncy castles, axe throwing, ice cream, and more! Come out and celebrate with your local firefighters!

Have a great weekend!

Bru and Jenn

Top 5 - This Week:

  1. Harvest has begun in the cereals. With other crops at or nearing maturity, desiccation timing (if you choose) is crucial.
  2. Favorable harvest weather to start the week with a much needed mid-week rainfall that will do wonders for the soybeans and corn... freshly cut oats, not so much.
  3. Not seeing any worrisome populations of insects.
  4. Waterhemp - Make sure that whoever is scouting your fields is well educated in waterhemp and knows how to identify it.  Waterhemp is popping up more widespread daily at this point.
  5. Soil sampling info requests have been sent out. Check your inboxes to provide current data.

Top 5 - Next Week

  1. Text your harvested fields to Luke so he can add them to the sampling list.
  2. Fall burn down prior to field work will help control the perennial weeds.
  3. If you need help with fertility plans for next year, give us a call!
  4. With many weed escapes this season, we can help with crop planning for 2025 to alleviate some weed pressure.
  5. โš ๏ธWe can not stress it enough, stay vigilant scouting your acres for waterhemp.โš ๏ธ
