Where did July go?

We can hardly believe how quickly the summer months are passing!

This week, Jenn visited our EcoTea trail in Altona, where a morning of Soil Health Education was held. It was wonderful to see some of you there!

Meanwhile, Bru attended the Manitoba 4R Day on Thursday, an excellent event organized by EMILI, Fertilizer Canada, and the Canola Council of Canada. It also marked the grand opening of the new Emili Innovation Farms Centre.

As we move into the heart of summer, we hope you can relax and enjoy the long weekend with your family. Take this time to recharge and appreciate the beauty of the season. Enjoy!

Have a great weekend!

Bru and Jenn

Top 5 - This Week:

  1. It's not all fusarium head blight. Lots of take-all, root rot and sawfly compromising cereal heads.
  2. Noticeable sclerotinia and verticillium stripe in the canola.
  3. Heat stress in some fields where roots have not been able to keep up with top growth (wet start followed by hot weather).
  4. Soybean aphids in low levels.
  5. Early cereals are nearing desiccation and/or swath timing.

Top 5 - Next Week

  1. Continue to watch for soybean aphids and other pests.
  2. Figure out which fields you want to desiccate and/or swath. Lots of weedy fields this year due to a cold/wet spraying season.
  3. Make notes of which fields have resistant weed problems and higher disease pressure to help plan future rotations.
  4. Line up your soil sampling needs for the fall.
  5. Waterhemp is spreading. NOW is the time of year that Waterhemp is easily noticeable. As you gear up for harvest, don't forget about Waterhemp. If you need to pull weeds, it looks like favorable weather this upcoming week!

Take a zero tolerance approach!!!
