July 11th, 2025

With some accumulated rainfall this week in some areas, the soil recharge has given crops a nice boost.  Overall, things are growing well, with stands looking strong across most fields. The hail that hit some areas didn't cause too much damage and those fields are recovering nicely.

Taking a look at our Antara agWeather Network, the accumulated rain was variable across our network: (Between July 6-10th)

  • Southern areas near the border received an average of 8mm
  • Further north rain amounts averaged around 3.23mm.

HOWEVER, after last night's rain further north, they are now sitting at an average of 10.5mm as of 10am on July 11th.

Corn Progress

Most fields are around V9–V10 and loving the rain. A bit of hail here and there, but nothing major. No bugs causing trouble either, so things are cruising along.

Cereal Crops

Cereal crops continue to hold strong. Wheat stem maggots are being found in wheat, mostly in the headlands. Early seeded wheat is at the milky dough stage.

Canola Watch

Canola is moving into mid podding, and stands are looking solid overall.

Bean Talk
Stands look quite good.  Soybeans are mostly at the R3 stage, with pods starting to form.  Overall, crops are coming along nicely, helped by those timely rains in parts of the region.  Now is the time to be diligent about scouting for any weeds that are emerging above the canopy - this could be Waterhemp, especially if you only used glyphosate as your herbicide.  The only form of control at this point is pulling the weeds and physically removing them from the field.

Question of the Week:

Do we need to worry about Fungicide when it is so hot?
