Less RAIN, MORE heat!

This week, our area experienced an unusual high water warning for several rivers—remarkably, in July! It feels like a flashback to spring. These conditions have undoubtedly created challenges for our crops, which have been waterlogged for an extended period. However, there's a silver lining on the horizon. The long-range forecast predicts less moisture and more sunshine in the coming days. This shift in weather is highly anticipated, as the increased sunlight and reduced rainfall will help dry out the saturated fields. The expected boost in heat units will be crucial for promoting healthy growth and development in our crops, especially for those that have been stunted by excessive moisture.

14 day forecast

As we reach the heart of summer, a common benchmark for corn growth is the saying, "knee-high by the Fourth of July." This traditional saying indicates that corn should ideally be around knee height by early July to ensure a healthy and productive crop. Given the varied weather conditions we've experienced this season, including bouts of rain and cooler temperatures, it's important to monitor your corn's progress closely. While some fields may meet this milestone, others might be lagging slightly. Regular field scouting and addressing any growth issues promptly can help ensure your corn reaches its full potential as the season progresses. If you have any concerns or need assistance, feel free to reach out—we're here to support you.

It has been a season where are scouts have truly seen it all:  Rain, Wind, Bugs, Heat.  A photo taken earlier this week really just says it all.

What's in it for Producers?

    • Real time weather data and histories from stations close to or on their fields
    • 7 day, hourly forecasts of wind, rain, temperature, humidity, delta T and more!
    • 7 day work planning forecasts to help plan field activities
    • Field level yield and disease modelling
    • See how weather varies across the region.

To make better decisions, we need better data. That’s why we initiated the Antara agWeather Network, aiming to cover our working areas with a constellation of private weather stations spaced approximately 6 miles apart. With stations close to your fields, we can provide a clearer picture of available moisture and the impact of weather at crucial stages of crop development, helping you make informed decisions. The best farm managers constantly monitor the weather and adjust plans to maximize profitability. Phase 1 stations have already been deployed! Each station connects to the internet, making data accessible via web and smartphone applications, with Antara operating and maintaining the network to keep costs affordable.

If you're interested in integrating this into your operation, reach out to us to discuss further.
