November 8th, 2024

Hello!

The cool weather this week has been a stark reminder that winter is just around the corner.  Some of us in the office are more excited than others that snow could show up anytime. 😂

We've been busy connecting with many of you through producer meetings, working together to prepare for next years season. It’s a busy time, but we're grateful for the chance to collaborate and move forward together.

Have a great week!

Michelle

This Week @ Antara:

1. The restriction on Winter Application of Nutrients ban has been extended until November 13, which means application can continue until midnight on November 12th.

**Note that there is a restriction in place that states that broadcast nutrients must be immediately incorporated for applications made on Nov 10-12…up until Nov 9 you can still broadcast without incorporation (unless applying manure in the Red River Special Management Area or flood-prone region, in which case you still have to follow the incorporation requirements as per the Livestock Manure and Mortalities Management Regulation).

You can always check back to the ECC website for updates to the winter application restrictions here:

Fall 2025 ST Residual -1

2.   This season we have conducted roughly 600+ tests between Aug 19th - Nov 5th.  Average nitrogen residuals are trending lower than normal which suggests that it may have been a limiting factor in many fields. As mentioned in previous newsletters, this is likely due to multiple factors including above average yields, increased denitrification and reduced mineralization.

Fall 2025 ST Residual P-1

3.   Phosphate residual averages are pretty even across the board except for soybeans. A drop of 2.5 ppm (approx. 5 lbs) is not a big difference but tune into next weeks newsletter where we will explore the cause.

Is it a recurring pattern we see every year?

Is it because soybeans use high amounts of P?

Is it because many growers don't bother to fertilize soybeans because they don't respond?

Is it because growers avoid growing soybeans on fields with a history of manure?

Does this recurring pattern influence the productivity of subsequent crops?

We have pulled out the weather stations for the winter.
